Effect of Administration of Cork Fish (Channa striata) Concentrate to the Blood's Profile of Balb/C Mouse Thrombocytopenia Model

Abstract


Background: Thrombocytopenia is a condition of decreased in the number of platelets in the circulation. The disorder is associated with an increased risk of bleeding, even with only minor injuries or minor spontaneous bleeding.

Objective: to analyze the effects of fish cork concentrate (Channa striata) on blood profile BALB / c mice with a model of cyclophosphamide-induced thrombocytopenia.

Methods: Mice were divided into 6 groups (n = 3) all groups induced with cyclophosphamide at a dose of 100 mg / kg bw in sub-cutaneous for 3 days. Group I (control) were given distilled water in peroral. Group II was given Plasbumin ® 5% intravenously. Group III was given Pujimin ® (585 mg / kg bw) was orally. Group IV-VI were cork fish concentrate (Channa striata) at a dose of 100, 250 and 500 mg / kg bw in peroral, treatment for 10 days. Parameters measured were routine blood profile on day-1, the 7th, and the 11th, blood clotting time and absorbance bone marrow DNA.

Results: Based on the results of the research that formed the model of thrombocytopenia with cyclophosphamide induction dose of 100 mg / kg bw on day-7, based on statistical analysis of cork fish concentrate (Channa striata) starting dose of 100 mg / kg bw can increase platelet although statistically not significantly different . For white blood cells, cork fish concentrate (Channa striata) dose of 100 mg / kg bw and 500 mg / kg bw increased white blood cell count was statistically significantly different to the cyclophosphamide group. For blood clotting time, cork fish concentrate (Channa striata) at a dose of 500 mg / kg bw were statistically significantly different increase blood clotting time against the cyclophosphamide group. For bone marrow DNA absorbance although the results were not statistically significantly different but the absorbance has a tendency to increase the provision of cork fish concentrate (Channa striata).

Conclusion: cork fish concentrate (Channa striata) dose of 100 mg / kg bw able to improve the white blood cells and platelets in thrombocytopenia model induced with cyclophosphamide.
